  • What is a birth doula?
A birth doula provides emotional and physical support during birth to support families in having a positive experience. As your doula I will support you in making decisions that honor your birth plan and protect your rights. I have been professionally trained in many aspects of labor but I cannot provide any medical assessment, diagnosis, or treatment.
  • How is a birth doula beneficial?
A birth doula provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to you and your partner before, during, and after childbirth. My goal is to support your journey towards a positive and empowering birth experience, regardless of the birth setting or outcome. Studies have shown that having a doula present can lead to shorter labor, decreased need for pain medication, lower risk of cesarean birth, and an overall more satisfying birth experience for both the birthing person and their partner.
  • Can I use a doula if I plan on having an epidural?
Yes, absolutely! Having an epidural does not mean you can't benefit from the continuous support, comfort, and guidance of a doula. I firmly believe that your birth plan is entirely your own, and I am here to support you no matter what choices you make. I can help you navigate the process, provide emotional and physical support, and advocate for your preferences throughout labor and delivery, regardless of your pain management choices. Whether you choose unmedicated childbirth, medicated birth, or anything in between, we are here to support and guide you every step of the way.
  • How does a doula support a C-section?
A doula can provide valuable support throughout a planned or unplanned C-section. Before the procedure, I can help you understand what to expect, prepare for the surgery, and address any concerns you may have. After the surgery, I can assist with breastfeeding, bonding with your baby, and processing the birth experience. With personalized care and attention, I aim to empower and comfort mothers throughout their C-section journey.
  • At what point in my pregnancy should I find a birth doula?
It is recommended to start looking for a birth doula as soon as possible in your pregnancy. This will allow you to have enough time to research and find the right doula who aligns with your birth preferences and values. Reaching out early on will ensure that we have the opportunity to build a strong relationship and you can receive the full range of services and support that is offered.
  • I've heard that birth never goes according to plan, so why do I need a birth plan
While it's true that birth can be unpredictable, creating a birth plan can help you feel more prepared and empowered during the birthing process. As a doula, I work closely with expectant parents to develop a birth plan that reflects their preferences, values, and goals for labor and delivery. While it's important to remain flexible, having a birth plan can help you communicate your wishes to your healthcare team and ensure that your voice is heard throughout the birth experience. Additionally, a birth plan can serve as a tool for informed decision-making, offering clarity and guidance during a time that may feel overwhelming.
  • I had a great birth experience with my first child, I want the experience with my second to be the same! Do I still need to prepare a birth plan
Absolutely! Even if you had a positive birth experience with your first child, it's still important to prepare a birth plan for your second birth. Each pregnancy and birth is unique, and having a birth plan helps ensure that your preferences and desires are communicated to your healthcare providers. As a doula, I can assist you in creating a birth plan that reflects your personal values and wishes, while also providing support during labor and childbirth. Whether it's your first or second child, having a birth plan can help you feel empowered and confident during the birthing process.
  • What is a postpartum doula?
A postpartum doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to new parents during the postpartum period. This includes helping with newborn care, breastfeeding support, light household tasks, and emotional support for the new mother. My focus is on providing personalized and nurturing care to help families transition smoothly into parenthood. The goal is to empower new parents, build their confidence, and create a peaceful and supportive environment during this transformative time.
  • Do I have to have a birth doula to use you as a postpartum doula?
No, you do not have to have a birth doula to use my services as a postpartum doula. While I offer both birth doula and postpartum doula services, they are independent of each other and can be utilized individually based on your needs. Whether you had a doula for your birth or not, I am here to support you during the postpartum period with services such as breastfeeding support, newborn care, emotional support, light household tasks, and more.
